Variety — British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the 2020 participants of its Newcomers Program. The program expanded to New York for the first time in its history and accepted a record number of first-year female participants.

American Film Institute — AFI FEST presented by Audi is going virtual! The 34th edition showcases 124 titles of which 53% are directed by women, 39% are directed by BIPOC and 17% are directed by LBGTQ+. In addition to its support for AFI film festivals throughout the year and the Audi Fellowship for Women at the AFI Conservatory, Audi is thrilled to highlight the incredible work of women filmmakers at this year’s AFI FEST and is proud to present this comprehensive guide to the films directed by women, screening online Oct. 15-22.

AFI Fest Unveils Lineup
Variety — The American Film Institute has unveiled its lineup of 124 films. The complete AFI Fest program includes 54 features, 3 episodic, 33 shorts, 19 Meet the Press Film Festival at AFI FEST shorts and 15 AFI Conservatory Showcase shorts of which 53% are directed by women, 39% are directed by BIPOC and 17% are directed by LBGTQ+. This year’s program represents 35 countries and includes seven world premieres.

All That Shorts — The 2020 edition of Out on Film, Atlanta’s International LGBTQ Film Festival will be held from 24th September to 4th October 2020. This is the 33rd edition of Out on Film and it will be online. Out on Film is Academy Award qualifying with the prize Best Drama Short.

The Georgia Voice — Out on Film presented by WarnerMedia announced the lineup of films and events for the 33rd edition of the Atlanta-based LGBTQIA+ film festival today, its first as an Oscar® qualifying film festival. Out on Film will once again offer a rich selection of LGBTQIA+ films curated from around the world. 39 features, 15 shorts programs with 82 films and a webseries representing 20 countries will be screened this year.

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and Film Academy Go Virtual With Latinx Festival
The Hollywood Reporter — NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are teaming to co-host a virtual edition of the annual NFMLA Film Festival InFocus: Latinx and Hispanic Cinema Festival. Scheduled for Sept. 25-26 and powered by crowdfunding platform Seed&Spark, the line-up consists of two shorts programs and a presentation of Varda Bar-Kar’s feature documentary Fandango at the Wall.

NFMLA — NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) co-host a virtual edition of the annual NewFilmmakers Los Angeles Film Festival InFocus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema event, powered by Seed&Spark. The InFocus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema line-up consists of two shorts programs and a presentation of Varda Bar-Kar’s feature documentary Fandango at the Wall. This event will include virtual screenings, filmmaker Q&A’s and industry panels.

Deadline — NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have teamed once again for the annual NFMLA Film Festival InFocus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema Festival — but this time it’s virtual. The fest is set for September 25-26 which aligns with Hispanic Heritage Month which kicks off September 15 and continues through October 15.

TFT — For the past 5 years the Hola México Film Festival has selected exemplary emerging Latino filmmakers for an intensive fellowship program that connects them with prominent directors, producers, festival programmers, and top executives in the Hollywood and Mexican filmmaking industries; and showcased their short films during the festival. This year HMFF have selected 19 TFT alumni to feature their outstanding shorts in Pantaya.

7boom — La directora mexicana Nicole Vanden Broeck, acaba de ser reconocida con el Grand Prize Marlyn Mason Award, que reconoce a las nuevas voces y perspectivas de mujeres en el séptimo arte. El cortometraje cuenta un fragmento de la vida de Elle, una adolescente de 16 años quien, a finales de los años 90 en los suburbios del sur de California, se descubre enamorada de su mejor amiga, la cual se está por mudar al día siguiente.
